Right from the beginning the Bishop of our Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. V. A Chikwe left no one in doubts concerning his pastoral purview; that is: “to deepen the faith in Mbaise land”

Therefore, the name THE GUIDE was chosen as a result of our perceived need to provide a sensible and sincere guide to our people in these days of social disorientation and confusion. Again, through this medium, the message of our Local Ordinary on the need for real and concrete manifestation of our faith in our daily Christian living will be beamed to the whole world.

Through the deepening of the Christian faith in our land , of widening the horizon of our people in the knowledge of world developments and of guiding our leaders with true and objective information on the affairs of their subjects, especially the rural dwellers and the less- privileged people everywhere, we would have contributed our quota in spreading the gospel message of justice and love.

In this way, the words of Zechariah when the news of the birth of John the Baptist his son came to him would have acquired a new realization: “TO GUIDE ALL PEOPLE’S FEET IN THE WAY OF PEACE”(LK 1:79).

The logo of our paper has purple borders with the characters of THE GUIDE written in white.

The first represents the toils and pains that characterized the incipient stages of the birth of our diocese – the first rural diocese in this part of the world with unique peculiarities and unique challenges.

The second, that is, the characters represent the great joy that heralded the creation of the diocese and the pillars upon which she is built, namely: Truth and Justice.

The motto: “IN TRUTH TO PEACE” is taken from the canticle of Zechariah.
